Chez Coronado is pleased to present Katy Shayne’s “Portals”, an exhibition of photographs. The show is on view through September 22, 2024 by appointment.
Photography and memory are deeply intertwined; to photograph something is to immortalize its image and make it available to one’s memory at any time. It becomes a way of traveling back to a very specific time and place that may become inaccessible over time otherwise. This moment of time travel that is achieved when someone looks back at a photograph is exactly what Katy Shayne’s newest body of work “Portals” is about. Across the breadth of the show are small vignettes - quiet, private moments that hold weight to the artist – that lead the viewer on a journey throughout the space until they land at “The Portal”. This large, webbed image is to be seen as both the end of the show and the start of it, completing the collapse of time that Shayne’s work aims to discuss.
