Public Notice is pleased to present “A Toast to Never”, a group show featuring the works of Alex Kerr, Ethan Shaw, Nick Rose, and Shun Kinoshita. The exhibition is on view through May 24, 2024 and is the second installment of Public Notice’s residency at Market Market.

All the people are dancing, and they're having such fun / I wish it could happen to me /
But if you close the door / I'd never have to see the day again /

If you close the door, the night could last forever /

Leave the wineglass out and drink a toast to never.

(The Velvet Underground, After Hours, 1969)

Palm Springs has lived in the minds of Americans as a paradise set in the deserts of Southern California – beginning as a spiritual location for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, then catapulted into the spotlight as a not-too-distant escape from Hollywood for many celebrities, the city has now turned into a full-on haven for any and all who may find themselves within the fold of the Coachella Valley. There is something fantastical and otherworldly to the city, the way the mountains reach up above the roofs of the mid-century homes, the way the golden light gleams off pools and glass. It is this feeling of fantasy that “A Toast to Never” works to embody. The works in the space are set as microcosms of imagining, inviting the viewer to partake in envisioning a moment of bliss that never ends.
