Public Notice is pleased to present Constructive Interference, a show of photos and photo book by Colin Sussingham and Elle Rotstein. The exhibition is on view through February 1, 2026, at the mezzanine of Homage Brewing.

Constructive Interference is a term used in physics when two or more waves of equal frequency (eg. sound, water, light) combine and produce a single wave that is greater than the sum of its parts. This phenomenon can be observed most obviously in water, where waves crash together and build, rolling onto the banks larger than they began.

Colin Sussingham and Elle Rotstein have spirited this technical term and applied it to their collaborative practice in the form of a hand bound photo book by that same name – “Constructive Interference”. Born out of a residency at Gate44 in Milan, Italy that the artists attended in 2024, the book consists of images created by Sussingham which have been recontextualized by way of collage and sequencing by Rotstein. These reworked images, many of which have been rephotographed and / or silkscreened over, were then handbound into an accordion style book by a master bookmaker at Gate44. The result is an edition of 3 incredibly bespoke photo books.

The physicality of the book, while impressive, is not the main attraction, but rather the images inside and what they have become after Sussingham and Rotstein’s collaboration. Across the accordion pages are splashed lush diptychs that turn into a vast landscape of photographs when expanded. Sussingham’s already dreamscape style of photography begins to completely exit reality upon Rotstein’s imaginings. Introducing soap suds, acrylic paint, layering of imagery, and the afore mentioned silkscreen, she challenges each photograph with her use of the hand. They become expansive and otherworldly, almost as if each page takes the viewer further down a rabbit hole.
