And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
(King James Bible, Revelation 15:2)
The Book of Revelation, oft times called The Book of the Apocalypse, is the final book of the New Testament and is a widely debated upon book within the Christian Bible. Its pages contain lush, yet obscure imagery of the end times and the cleansing of the Earth to create a new Heaven and Earth and eventually describe the second coming of the Christian Christ. Throughout his prophetic visions across the verses, John of Patmos writes of a great sea of glass at the foot of the Lord’s throne – a sea that soon after being seen becomes mingled with fire.
This imagery is the jumping off point for “Sea of Glass”. Together Joe Horner and Jack Hill have reimagined the verses of Revelation and have brought the metaphors into the gallery space.
